The Town of Cobourg Story
Cobourg Mayor Peter Delanty's speech of March 27, 2008 follows the Luxlite announcement stating how, over 20 years, by changing to Luxlite light fixtures and bulbs, the town expects to save $1.3-million, acquire new streetlights that use half the energy of the town's existing bulbs which are high-pressure sodium, have lights lasting up to 20 years instead of six or seven, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 500 tons per year.
Cobourg is about to take a giant step towards energy conservation by changing the lighting in all 2,395 of the town's street lights from the energy eating high pressure sodium lights to a new induction lighting system. Luxlite a world-class lighting manufacturing company, provided the lighting for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and the world's largest utility program for CFL giveaway in the U.S.
